"Jeremy Lin and the Irish ... Believe it."
Notre Dame (19-8, 11-3) coach Mike Brey said that after the Irish capped off an overtime comeback victory at Villanova last night, trailing at one time by 20 points in the second half.
If you recall, leading scorer Tim Abromaitis went down with a season-ending knee injury in his second game. From there, the Irish looked horrendous, at best an NIT participant this season. Georgia, Gonzaga, Maryland, Indiana, and Cincinnati all handled Notre Dame with ease. At 11-8 (3-3), with wins over the likes of Mississippi Valley, Detroit, Sam Houston, Bryant College, Maine, New Hampshire, Dartmouth, Sacred Heart, and an awful Pittsburgh team, it was assumed that Notre Dame's season was a mere formality.
But then Mike Brey changed the offense entirely. Since then, the Irish have run off 8 straight wins, all in Big East play, including a home victory over then #1 Syracuse (without Fab Melo), a road victory over West Virginia, a road victory over Connecticut, and a home win over Marquette (which could crack the top 10 this week).
Mike Brey - National Coach of the Year? If he doesn't get enough votes to warrant at least 2nd place, there's something wrong with the process.

Brey is an interesting character....good coach in many respects, and then there is his relationships with the media (esp. local/South Bend).
Did anyone else read Bob K in the Star today? I don't want to say he reads the G2, but it sure seems like maybe he read last week's Historian's Corner.....
Of course he reads the G2. At this point, who doesn't? C'mon, man.
