[Back on top ... but for how long?]
01. Kentucky - I jinxed Baylor last week; UK goes on road twice this week
02. Missouri - my pre-season dark-horse Final Four squad is looking like a favorite
03. Syracuse - loss of Fab Melo is huge; if academics, isn't he out all semester?
04. Ohio State - quietly hovering in the top 5, need signature conference road win
05. Kansas - are they this good, or playing over their heads a bit?
06. Baylor - duh, I put them #1 on my ballot knowing they had to go to KU and host Mizz
07. North Carolina - loss of Dexter Strickland for season will be costly re depth
08. Duke - same old story: athletic FSU team comes in, beats Duke at Cameron
09. Georgetown - the team nobody knows anything about
10. Michigan State - pummeled Purdue on Saturday ... tough loss by 1 at Michigan
11. Murray State - about to get their 2nd leading scorer back from injury
12. UNLV - since their big win over UNC, treading water in the 10-15 range
13. San Diego State - this will be a trendy Sweet 16 pick in the bracket pools
14. Florida - playing better since getting shell-shocked at Tennessee
15. Creighton - one of few teams I've yet to see in action, McDermott this year's Jimmer
16. Indiana - starting to hit reality a bit, travel to Wisconsin this week, need W
17. Marquette - team will not likely get blown out by anyone; always in it 'til the end
18. Mississippi State - huge road W at Vandy to remind people they are decent
19. Virginia - not impressed; if this team is top 20, then end polls at 19
20. Michigan - I'm in the minority, but they've never impressed me outside of Crisler
21. St. Mary's - blah
22. Kansas State - blah
23. Florida State - starting to find their groove; smacked UNC and Duke? hello
24. Connecticut - without Boatright, they're more lost than ever; season on brink?
25. Wisconsin - I'm bored just typing their name ...

Scheduling gods not too kind to Michigan ... after losing at Arkansas over the weekend, here are their next 4 games:
@ Purdue
@ Ohio State
v Indiana
@ Michigan State
Currently 5-2 in conference, 2-2 in this stretch seems like best case scenario.
Hoosiers have tough sledding over next two weeks too: @Wisky, v. Iowa, @ Michigan and @ Purdue. Those of us that are rational IU fans are hoping for 2-2 but bracing for 1-3. Of course, a team that can lose at home to Minnesota and at Nebraska could easily go 0-4. Really a question of which IU team shows up. Yesterday, for example, the hoosiers won the second half by 21 points after entering the locker room at half down 2 to lowly Penn State.
Interesting B1G season, as anyone seems capable of beating anyone on any given night (except OSU, which is still the class of this league save for two somewhat flukey road losses). Take, for example, Illinois, who lost big at Purdue, then beat Ohio State, then lost at Penn State. Hell, Penn State whomped Purdue by 20 and then lost to Nebraska. Nebraska beat no one, until they came from behind to knock off a ranked but clearly over-rated Hoosiers team (sorry, Ice, I know that still smarts---I do hope you post your letter when it is written). Wisconsin loses at home to Iowa, then beats Illinois on the road. Northwestern beats Sparty, then loses to Michigan in the same house. Anyhow, you get the idea.
Oh, it'll get written. Maybe today. I put it on the back-burner due to Iowa State kindly recouping all losses, but that isn't fair to the likes of Old Man and Toddfather.
