Getting caught up ...

[(c) Dallas Star-Telegram]

Road trips are great ... until the drive home. In any event, this year's Cotton Bowl was enjoyable, the scene was top-notch (you wouldn't have known it wasn't a BCS game with all the pre-game festivities), and there's a good chance the Arkansas Razorbacks will be challenging for a spot in the BCS championship game next season. Selfishly, we hope they make it, because we'll have tickets for that one, too.

01. According to this, the Colts have already decided they will draft Stanford's Andrew Luck with the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. All of you are stunned, I realize.

02. Drew Brees is a straight-up gun-slinger. He was throwing laser beams last night as he shredded the Detroit Lions' defense, especially in the second half. 33-43 for 466 yards? Okay, but I continue to ask: HOW DID THIS TEAM LOSE AT THE ST. LOUIS RAMS?!

03. There's one more bowl game (tonight) before the BCS Championship. For some odd reason, the GoDaddy.com bowl between Arkansas State and Northern Illinois is tonight at 9pm ET. Huh? Is this really necessary? Did these bowl execs think they could get the eyes of the nation by scheduling this thing as a stand-alone bowl the night before the championship?

04. Missouri was knocked from the unbeatens by Kansas State yesterday, and they weren't just beaten, they were donkey-punched by the Wildcats. But let's be honest, who wins in the Little Apple with Frank Martin staring at you like that? Baylor, Syracuse, and Murray State are you remaining unbeaten teams in college basketball. If you look at scheduling, Syracuse doesn't play another ranked team until a week into February, so they'll likely race out to something like 23-0, and Murray State will be favored in all of their remaining games. Baylor? They play at Kansas State, at Kansas, and host Missouri in three of their next four. Yeah, I'm thinking they're the next unbeaten to fall.

05. Word starting getting out that Brady Quinn was taking snaps with the first team at Denver's practice the other day. Is that part of God's plan, for Tebow to get benched in his first playoff game? Elway and the Broncos front office needs to quit jerking this guy around.
